Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
